On the morning of October 22, the “International Forum on Prevention and Treatment of Oral and Craniofacial Diseases for Children” was officially opened at the Academic Conference Hall on the fifth floor of the outpatient building at Rizhao Hospital Affiliated to Qingdao University/Rizhao International Heart Hospital.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished experts from home and abroad, including Professor Goh Bee Tin, President and Senior Advisor of the National Dental Centre of Singapore; Professor Nieka Adhara Wahono, Acting Director of the International Affairs Office and Manager of Cooperation, Entrepreneurship, and Alumni Affairs at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia; Professor Guan Guoqiang, Director of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine; Professor Bien Lai, Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Senior Advisor at the National Dental Centre of Singapore; ; Professor Atik Ramadhani from the Department of Preventive and Public Health Dentistry, University of Indonesia; Professor Prima Andisetyanto, Lecturer at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Padjadjaran University, Indonesia; Professor Yang Longqiang, Doctoral Supervisor at Tokyo Dental College; Professor Wang Wanchun, Party Secretary and Dean of Qingdao University Affiliated Qingdao Dental Hospital; Professor Yuan Changqing, Dean of the School of Stomatology, Qingdao University; Professor Shao Linqin, Executive Vice Dean of the Hong District of Shandong University School of Stomatology; Professor Shang Lingling, Associate Researcher at Shandong University School of Stomatology; Professor Tian Jing, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Peking University School of Stomatology; Professor Wang Xiaohe, Department of Preventive Dentistry, Peking University School of Stomatology; and various experts and professors from Binzhou Medical University, Weifang People’s Hospital, and Shandong Provincial Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital. The opening ceremony was hosted by Wang Haibo, Party Secretary and Director of the Rizhao Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission.
In his speech, Song Xin, Chairman of the Rizhao Dental Hospital Group and Rizhao Hospital Affiliated to Qingdao University/ Rizhao International Heart Hospital, expressed his great honor in inviting numerous experts and scholars from the U.S., Singapore, Indonesia, and China to share their valuable experiences and academic achievements on the frontier topics of pediatric oral and craniofacial health. Chairman Song emphasized that oral and craniofacial diseases directly impact children's growth and quality of life, with dental caries being one of the most common pediatric oral diseases. In recent years, the incidence of pediatric dental caries has been rising annually. However, with the implementation of dental fissure sealant programs, the rate of caries in children has significantly decreased, leading to considerable improvements in public health. He stated that through this forum, he hoped to engage in in-depth discussions with experts and scholars to jointly explore the establishment of standards for the prevention and treatment of pediatric oral and craniofacial diseases, develop operational guidelines, and provide systematic training support for doctors, thereby promoting the comprehensive improvement of children's oral health.
Professor Goh Bee Tin, President and Senior Advisor of the National Dental Centre of Singapore, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of pediatric oral health, highlighting the profound impact that oral diseases can have on children’s overall health and future development. She shared Singapore’s measures to promote children's oral health, focusing on prevention, education, and accessibility. Professor Goh stated that achieving good oral health requires joint efforts from all parties, with stronger collaboration and exchange to advance the cause of children's oral health. She hoped the forum would explore new practices and embrace new technologies to create a healthier and better future for children.
Professor Nieka Adhara Wahono, Acting Director of the International Affairs Office at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Dentistry, pointed out in her speech that children are the future of any nation, and their oral health directly affects their overall health, quality of life, and future growth and development. She expressed her gratitude for this valuable opportunity to share Indonesia’s experiences in pediatric dentistry and looked forward to deepening cooperation in the future to contribute to the field of children’s oral health.
The forum was a dynamic and engaging event, with renowned scholars and clinical experts from Singapore, Indonesia, the U.S., Japan, and China giving keynote speeches on hot topics in oral health, discussing the latest research findings and clinical progress in the field, and exchanging ideas on the frontiers of academic thought.
Attendees expressed their intention to take this forum as an opportunity to learn and draw from its result, using the new ideas and models brought by the experts to innovate, continuously improve professional skills and service capacity, and contribute to the flourishing development of the oral health field nationwide.
Li Yantao, Executive Director of Rizhao Dental Hospital Group, presented an overview of the hospital, focusing on medical technology, safety, services, and cultural development. In his speech, Director Li highlighted that the presence of experts greatly supports the development of the dental medical field in Rizhao, and hoped that colleagues would continue to uphold their original aspirations, injecting vitality into the city’s oral health sector.
The forum aimed to promote academic exchange in the field of pediatric dentistry and craniofacial disease prevention and treatment within the “Belt and Road” countries in Asia, providing an open platform for communication on child oral health prevention and treatment in the Asia-Pacific region.
